Our Philosophy

At Georgia Power, we work to make Georgia the best home for everyone. We do it by helping to preserve our state’s economic vitality through our five focus areas of giving – education, arts, environmental, civic and community engagement, and health and human services.

Education
We are dedicated to improving and strengthening educational initiatives to help students across the state build brighter futures. That’s why in 2018, through the Georgia Power Foundation, we contributed over $6 million to educational programming, schools, scholarships and educator training that focus on the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). These efforts not only focus on advancing the student experience, but also provide educators with the tools necessary to motivate their students. Through these programs we hope to influence generations of students to think critically and to be excited about careers in science and technology – after all, it’s the passionate, educated and driven students of today that become the bright minds of our state’s workforce tomorrow. Georgia Power supports educational initiatives throughout the state and builds awareness about careers in the energy industry by offering educational grants, plant tours, educational resources and more.

Arts
We believe that preservation of the arts is essential to Georgia’s legacy. That’s why in 2018, through the Georgia Power Foundation, we gave over $1.2 million in support of local and regional arts and cultural programs. The arts are a huge part of Georgia’s rich heritage – they foster the critical and creative thinking that strengthens our state’s economy. That’s why we are committed to ensuring that the arts remain a strong fiber in the fabric of our communities.

Environment
We are committed to being good stewards for Georgia. Our education partnerships and projects work towards conservation, restoration and awareness, so that future generations will have a prosperous and beautiful place to call home. Through the Georgia Power Foundation, we support environmentally-focused organizations and programs that are working to preserve the natural legacy of our state. In 2018, we invested over $1.2 million to increase environmental awareness, improve air and water quality, preserve natural resources and protect endangered species.

Civic & Community Engagement
Georgia Power and the Georgia Power Foundation believe in building strong communities. Our communities are at the core of what makes Georgia an attractive state to live, learn and do business. That’s why, in 2018, we contributed over $3.9 million to civic and community organizations. We are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all citizens of our state. As part of that promise, we maintain relationships with key leaders and organizations, so we can work together to help our communities flourish and build a brighter future for our state.

Health & Human Service
We know that the health of a community is only as strong as the well-being of its citizens. That’s why, in 2018, through the Georgia Power Foundation, we contributed over $5 million to improve the health and well-being of our state’s citizens. We continue to partner with non-profit organizations and agencies to promote positive, healthy change in communities, families and individuals across the state. Together, we can help make sure thousands of Georgians are living healthier and happier lives.
